Food Dressing

Watching the Wedding Channel has inspired me to search for more bling in my food. I remember the little sugar pearls and edible crystals I used in my home economics classes, and am almost certain the cooking/baking people would have created more refined and pretty things for us to consume.

The Japanese like to dress their cakes, sushi, sake with this gorgeous condiment. Not so sure what it adds flavour-wise. A little industry secret says you can buy real 24k gold flakes that are meant for consumption. Try http://www.delafee.com/ for their gold and silver flakes as well as a variety of other blinged products like chocolate, tea, cigars and lollipops.

A more recent discovery is the gold or silver spray paint from an online store obviously targeted at guys: http://www.the-deli-garage.com/shopware.php. Spraying a fine mist of pure gold onto your foods to create a smooth & even coating sounds like a dream product for chefs. So much so their gold paint is already out of stock! Ah well, the site also stocks loads of other great ingredients like wrench shaped pasta or home-made vodka in a designer canteen.

99% Sale

The 99% discount sale is now here.

The invitation for my friends: http://www.reebonz.com/s/26F

* Event didn't happen! Earlier posts & tweets by "fans" already hinted that was the case. Fishy business on a supposedly popular site! As always Caveat Emptor.

Grand Aunt's 81st Birthday

The giant longevity bun hides a couple more mini buns. We had these traditional longevity buns filled with white lotus paste at my dad's birthday as well. It is shaped like a peach, the Chinese symbol of long life. Dinner for the whole extended family at Man Fu Yuan.

Shopping in KL!

It's been 5 years since my last trip to KL. Different scenary, same activities (clubbing, eating, shopping). I love the beauty treats at half price due to the favourable exchange rate. Check out the rock star brushes I found with crystallized handles. Surprisingly soft!

Adorably soft pastry magnets and 1 of the petronas twin towers. Didn't make a trip to the twin towers this time but managed to catch a sky view of it at dinner.

Caught a quick snack of soup in a cube bread bowl before heading to the airport.

Selangor Pewter 125th anniversary miniatures and magnetic photo frames.

Batik pieces to sew my own dress and maybe cushions.

Hand-painted silk sarongs and scarves, for my mom and me (mother's day).

KL Weekend

I honestly thought I could handle a 6am flight to KL, until I fell asleep during my manicure. We trooped back to the hotel room to take a nap before the dinner. Don't want to fall asleep in the soup.

So nice of our friend to check us into a hotel with adjoining mall, enough space to throw our barang around and soft fluffy beds with pillows of different densities. Thanks man!

So the dinner didn't take place in the hotel, but across the road at Banker's Club. Full of old world charm, with candles, pianist and music throughout the night. The fusion menu was delectable, urm...juicy chicken in truffle madeira sauce and 2 desserts!

Magazine-worthy 3 layer chocolate wedding cake with fresh flowers.

Mughal Jewels Exhibit

It's free entry for senior citizens and children. My mom and I are here to see the Jewels of the Mughal Empire exhibit. For all attendees, there is even a contest sponsered by Lee Hwa =)

Loads of exquisite jewellery on display with armed guards patrolling the exhibit area. Not surprising given the combined opulance of all the pieces. Towards the end of the exhibit, there were 3 uncut diamonds totalling 100 carats in addition to chunks of emeralds, rubies and spinal. Wow!

Office Cruise

7pm Friday evening, everyone is on board the ship. Ready for a 3 hour cruise into the open waters just off Sentosa.

Perfect timing for us to catch a view of the setting sun when it casts a rosy shadow on the horizon. As the ship pulls away from the harbour, we are treated to beautiful views of the city scape including the Marina IR and Flyer.

A little further away, we find this massive storm cloud formed just above the city, with occasional flashes of lightning from within, it looks like a menacing UFO. Glad I am not in the city right now.

3 hours of Sea breeze, food, drinks and relentless chatter in a chinese restaurant setting is about all we can take. It feels like one of my vacations to HK or China.
