HJH Maimunah

 Start of the school holidays!

This Malay eatery has outlets in food courts island wide. I finally get to order my Nasi Ambeng platter from this place for home delivery. Pricing is also the most reasonable at almost half of my other orders.

Best part is this place has malay desserts and kueh that we all love soo much! I ordered a mix of malay kueh, goreng pisang and jongkong that is liquid creams of pandan, gula melaka and coconut milk.

The pre-bottled drinks are all syrup mixes in either clear with some sort of fruit or milky mixed with condensed milk. No hot drinks or brews though.

Side dish of lemak pucuk ubi or tapioca leaves stewed in coconut milk that is not commonly found here. This nasi ambeng platter has the usual stuff you find @ food courts like rendang, ayam lemak chili padi (chicken in coconut & chilis), begedel (potato cutlet), achar (pickled veges), ikan bilis kacang (fried tiny fish & peanuts), serunding (grated fried coconut with spices), sambal goreng jawa (tofu cubes & green beans stir-fried), paru belado (beef lung), terung belado (brinjal)

Zaffron Kitchen

It was Vesak Day this past week.

Zaffron Kitchen has a few eateries located inside shopping centers island wide. This place has all types of fruit lassis and even marsala chai, a new obsession for me to try all the marsala chai's in different Indian restaurants coz its always different.

My order of tandoori mix grill with an assortment of naan bread. It comes with a mint coriander dip and lemon wedges that I didn't squeeze coz its sour enough already. I like the bbq taste of grilled meat, there is fish, mince lamb and 2 types of chicken.

Then there is butter chicken with briyani rice that comes with tadka dal and jaipuri style mixed vegetables. The curry gravy is really everything and each of these dishes taste very different from each other.

Padi @ Bussorah

It was Mother's Day this last weekend.

This nasi padang place is located at Kampong Glam near Masjid Sultan. I ordered one of their mandi rice platters for group, that is more middle eastern rather than Indonesian. This place has all sorts of family platters.

I also ordered several side dishes of siput sedut (green curry snails), goreng pisang kicap chili api (fried bananas in spicy black sweet sauce) and their signature famous char kway teow (sweet Malaysian hawker version).

Drinks are iced chocolates and iced coffees. I really like the dry bbq in the mandi platter as well as the zaatar spice on the onions & purple cabbage. Must be what safari in the middle east tastes like, only I don't have to travel there to eat it.

Pagi Sore Indonesian Restaurant

Double public holidays this week, Labour Day and Hari Raya Puasa.

Ordering home delivery from my favorite Indonesian nasi padang place. The steamed white rice here is nasi putih that comes wrapped like a dumpling. The crisps are the slightly bitter belinjo that goes well with sambal belacan.

Ikan Otah (fish terrine in asian spices) is actually an entire fish fillet covered in otah spices and steamed in coconut milk. Angus Beef Rendang that comes with a salad and Chicken Bali that is sold by the kg in a platter.

Tauhu Telor (deep fried tofu omelette) soaked in rojak-like sauce. Sambal Kangkong a little more sour and spicy than the usual chinese zhichar stall version. House Chendol that is not to be missed. I didn't order the other drinks though.
