Spotlight New Stuff

Spotlight keeps sending me vouchers and I keep going back to buy more stuff.

This time around the Mountain Chalet yarns were on clearance at just $8 ea.

I bought the Cleckheaton Perfect Day 8 ply marled yarns that are all naturally coloured (no dyes) alpaca & wool (S$11.90 ea).

Also bought the Cleckheaton Country Tartan 8 ply in mustard heather ($6.39 ea) and the Cleckheaton Country Natural 8 ply in black tweed ($6.59 ea). Both made from pure new wool.

Some shiny stuff for the festive season like Taylor a silver sparkly yarn ($7.99) and Excel gold yarn for accents ($6 ea).

I also went wild with Christmas plates, napkins, more wood die-cuts & spray paints, 1 ribbon organizer and 1 automatic cording maker.

Advent Calendar Panel

I saw these ready made Christmas Sewing Panels at Spotlight and positively shrieked. Just cut along the dotted lines and sew, what a great Christmas craft to get into the spirit of festivities.

Sewing this is similar to quilting, you can add some wadding and lining. Maybe bind the edges for a more complete look. Then sew the little pockets over the front picture. I also purchased the Spotlight quilting book with 16 projects at just $0.99.

Advent Calendars build anticipation towards Christmas. Unwrapping a gift a day as you count down. I grew up on chocolate advent calendars, but, you really can put anything you want into these. My friend had a Groupon Vouchers version before and my brother got his kids Lego figurines advent calendars before (on sale at OG now).

Instead of wadding and lining, I used 2 layers of microfibre thermals that is kinda spongy. This can really double as a baby blanket.

Red ribbon ties to hang it up with and it's complete. I punctured 1 fingernail making this and it still hurts. But, totally worth it!

Fendi A/W 2013 Fashion

We see the House of Fendi return to fur in a big way, something most fashion houses have been avoiding lately. But, it's not the usual fuddy duddy fur items as Karl Lagerfield sends down the runway all these unique pieces for the fashion forward individual. And are those angry bird charms?

ZARA

Zara usually offers European influenced clothes. This season it provides a nod to menswear as the pieces take on influences from the androgynous collections we have seen the past year or two from well-known designers.

Affordable and wearable, the basic criterias to get you out of your style rut and into the cutting edge of fashion. Even if you are not really fashion-forward by nature, these clothes will fit into your wardrobe and comfort zone. A starting point for your foray into fashion.

Szechuan Court Restaurant

Delicious, burning hot dishes from Szechuan Court that specializes in spicy Szechuan food. Lots of fish/meat soaked in chili oil and chicken stir fry with dried peppercorns/chilis. It gets too much after a while and there isn't much non-spicy food on the menu, however the food here is good enough to have you coming back for more.

Christmas Gifts for Knitters

Addi "Diamond" Turbo Knitting Needles for circular knitting, the inside of the needles are filled with Swarovski crystals, USD$125. This collector's edition is available in limited quantities. Addi also makes really pretty gold acrylic knitting needles and cords as well as stoppers, that are priced much cheaper.

Soakbox from SOAK, USD$50. It consists of a small bottle of soak wash and hand moisturizer, a skein of custom coloured Lorna's Laces yarn, matching Essie nail polish and a knitting pattern for fingerless mittens. There are 4 different colours/patterns to choose from. This too adorable gift box is perfectly put together and I know I would love to receive one.

The Broken Circle: Yarns of the Knitting Witches is a novel (USD$16) with optional companion knitting pattern book (USD$17) to make the items described in the novel. I read a few pages to check the writing style and it is quite nicely done. If you don't want to get the pattern book, you can choose one of their ready put together kits (USD$28). Their home webstore (Potluck Yarns) also sells natural or dyed yarn.

Dylon permanent fabric markers, USD$10. Dylon is a household name in fabric dyes and now it comes in the form of coloured markers. To show off your artistic side, these fabric markers allow you to draw/paint your knitting after it has been completed so you can get the colours where you need them to be permanently. Especially helpful for those working with undyed natural yarns.

Shawl Pins or Brooches, it can be handmade or branded, like this set of tortoise shell Hermes hair pin that doubles as a shawl pin. Most designer hair pins are vintage of course, quite difficult to find these anymore.

Tote bag to put your current knitting project & tools in. That way, everything's in one place and you can carry it around to your favorite knitting spot. I like this Fendi 2Jours Zebra-Print Fur Tote bag, SGD$8,783, it's a krazy bag for the Krazy knitting lady.

What all knitters really want & have is a Yarn Stash!
