Golden Duck Salted Egg Yolk potato crisps, this is the Chinese New Year version. I have to say Golden Duck has really got the salted egg yolk flavor right and this CNY version is very creamy with no egg-y taste at all. You can taste the spices including chilis.
KaizoCool Fish Skin Salted Egg that is exactly the same as ordering it from Zhi Char stall. The salted egg here is a sweet custard-y version with a hint of spice and no chilis at all. The fish skin is very crispy and salty, so this turns out to be sweet & salty, one of our fave flavor combinations.
Tao Kae Noi Salted Egg Yolk seaweed tempura crisps. Instead of thin seaweed its seaweed coated in a thick tempura crust and tastes exactly like prawn crackers, a bit strong on the spicy shrimp floss flavor and not soo much on the salted egg yolk. The portion size is small and 1 person can finish this for a snack.
I believe all the real preserved salted eggs have left the supermarket shelves a long time ago. I recently bought some and its actually fresh duck eggs! It should look like this pic above if its authentic, brightly coloured and crumbly.
