SG Yacht Show 2014

SG Yacht Show starts tomorrow at ONE°15 Marina Club in Sentosa Cove (W Hotel). This annual 4 day event will feature bigger yachts this year to up the glam factor. For the general public, entrance fees start from $50 for a 1 day pass.

Super Yachts (S/Y) range from 120 to 200 ft (60m+) and Mega Yachts (M/Y) are over 200 ft. These yachts are crewed and sometimes available for charter (rental holidays) in specific locations. As such, these yachts take on character and have special features like Exuma's amphibious jeep, Namaste's light well running through several floors of it's interiors, Cloud 9 a 2010 award winner with it's giant multi-level water slide, Royal Albatross a historic tall ship with club interiors for corporate charter, Miquette a sail ship available for Phuket Charter, Dunia Baru a newly built traditional Indonesian sail ship with all wood interiors, Moon Sand & Keri Lee III have traditional Victorian decor, Vertigo a 2012 multi-award winning black & cream sailing yacht with gym and dive room, Blue Sapphire has dark wood & white interiors, Aquarius S with an all wood interior.

Catamarans have twin hulls that allow the yacht to stabilize without a ballasted keel, making it lighter and higher. Damrak II the largest catamaran on show is ~~only catamaran~~ motorized, with cream & wood interiors, ability to accommodate up to 8 guests overnight. Heliotrope 65 Solar Catamaran is completely solar powered with bright coloured interiors and mosiac designs in the bathrooms. Lagoon Catamarans all have that classic netting sunbed in front, 400S2 and 52 can accommodate 6-8 guests, 620 has a flybridge and ability to accommodate up to 11 guests. Leopard 51 has an all white modern interior with flybridge. Fountaine Pajot's Summerland 40 has a flybridge and can accommodate 10 guests, Queensland 45 can accommodate 8 guests. Aquila Power Cat 44m & 45m features wood & white interiors with 360° view.

Fishing boats are popular in Singapore, who doesn't have a relative that loves to fish. Beneteau Barracuda is a standard fishing boat with inside lounge area (to get away from the heat) and toilet. Same with Grady White 338. Cabo 36 Express has an aquarium bait box that lights up, fish box, storage locker, bait prep area with sink and fridge/freezer (depending on the thermostat). Inside there is a kitchen dining area, toilet & shower facilities, 2 daybeds for 3 people. Cabo 52 Express is for the family man with bigger kitchen dining area (convertible into 2 more beds) and 2 bedrooms (4 persons). Flybridge tower has a helm but no seats.

For the social animals, there are these recreational vehicles. Chris Craft Silver Bullet is a metallic silver motor boat used for water sports and moving around like a car. It has seats, cooler box and storage locker. Wider 42 is the newest thing around with ability to hydraulically expand it's deck space wider when not in motion. Custom fitted space for 1 jetski in the back. Toilet/Shower and lounge area inside. Convertible dining/sunbed on deck. Sheltered Helm. Chaparral 215 has helm, seats, storage locker, coolbox outside and indoors there is a toilet and lounge area. Beneteau Oceanis 41 is a sailing boat with outdoor lounge area and swimming platform, indoors it has a kitchen dining area, bath/toilet and daybed.

Cabin cruisers are yachts smaller than 12m, good for social gatherings and family fun on the water. Chaparral 310 has kitchen & dining as well as 1 bedroom & toilet indoors. Outdoors it has lounge area, helm, sunbeds and wet bar. Chaparral 370 has everything the 310 has with the addition of a swimming platform. Atlantis 38 has an indoor helm, 4 guests capacity. Cranchi 40 has a flybridge with helm and seats only, 4 guests capacity. Grand Banks Heritage Europa 41 is similar to Cranchi 40 with larger transom to strap a tender on. Fairline Targa 38GT is similar to Cranchi 40, in addition, all Gran Turismos (GT) have a smooth sliding sun roof. Fairline Squadron 42 is similar to Europa 41 where the tender is stapped onto the swimming platform instead.

Yachts between 12 to 24 35 metres. This is where the bulk of the yachts on display come under.

AZIMUT yachts is showcasing it's Magellano 43 that has the classic Italian boat shape. Flybridge 64, 70, 95 has a sleeker modern exterior, with deck space on the flybridge for suntanning, dining & grill. Modern Italian interiors. 6-8 guests capacity. 95 has additional garage space for 1 or 2 tenders. Grande series has 5 sizes, including the latest 95RPH for Spring 2014.

HANSE Sailing Yachts 520, 545, 575 have a configurable space for up to 6 guests.

GRAND BANKS Yachts have a boxy appearance. 43EU has a flybridge with helm & seats, 4 guests capacity, tender can be strapped onto transom. Aleutian 53 is a new model for 2014, featuring a sheltered flybridge with helm & seats, 5 guests capacity.

MONTE CARLO Yachts MC5 has a more traditional motorboat exterior, flybridge with helm & sunbeds, 5 guests + 1 crew capacity. 65 & 76 have a sleeker exterior. 65 features sunbeds in front, lounge area behind, flybridge with helm & seating, 6 Guests + 2 Crew capacity. 76 has the same as 65 with a bigger flybridge and additional sunbeds.

PRINCESS Yachts V39 is the smallest of the V class (sport yachts). Transom is large enough to strap a tender on. 4 Guests Capacity. P43 is the smallest of the Flybridge series and a 2014 award winner. 4 Guests Capacity. P52 & P56 has a 6 Guests + 1 Crew Capacity. P60 has a 6 Guests + 2 Crew Capacity. P72 has an 8 Guests + 2 Crew Capacity. 88MY is the latest model launched in 2013.

SAN LORENZO 25m & 30m has 8 to 10 guests capacity.

BENETEAU Antares 42 has a flybridge with sunbeds and dining area. 4 Guests Capacity.

CRUISERS Black Diamond yachts all have sleek exteriors. Not sure what model they intend to show but it specializes in luxury motor boats and recently launched a live aboard 45 Cantius. Expect lots of outdoor daybeds either way.

FAIRLINE Targa 50 features a luxury apartment feel with white & light wood interiors, 6 Guests Capacity

PERSHING 64 has space for tender, featuring a retractable roof at the back of the yacht. 6 Guests + 2 Crew capacity.

RIVA 56 has the usual flybridge, sunbed in front, dining area behind. 6 Guests Capacity.

SESSA FLY47 has black & white interiors. Outdoor lounge area behind has sunshades that can be pulled down. 6 Guests Capacity.

SUNSEEKER Manhatten 73 is the largest of the Manhatten series. Features large windows all around. 8 guests capacity.

Yip's by Andik Nurdiany

Yip's is located in Square 2 Novena S.C. at the entrance of the MRT (opposite Harvey Norman). It is halal and it was actually my malay colleague that introduced me to Yip's with it's unbelievably flaky, buttery, delicious pastries. Our favourite is the Cheesy Mushroom Puff. But everything else savoury is good too. I haven't tried the cookies and desserts yet. They also sell coffee and tea, everything you need for your afternoon snack.

Mountain Chalet Mohair Scarf

Mountain Chalet yarn ball is 450 metres of mohair mix in ombre colour tones. There are instructions on the yarn label for a basic scarf using straight knit stitches. I tried it using small pegs and it started curling as the stitches were too tight. I switched to large pegs and the resulting scarf was a little too light and loose. Maybe I should have used 2 strands of yarn instead of 1.

Anyway, the scarf is way too light to hold that massive fringe, so I had to rework the fringe into the entire length of the scarf creating a woolly mammoth look. It goes twice around the neck too.

Burberry Spring/Summer 2014

We see pastels, we see lace...spring is definitely here and all the sweet-as-pie clothes can be found at Burberry this season.

Very little not to love about Burberry womens-wear easy breezy style this season.

Even the accessories will have you craving for more designer candy this season.

Burberry Menswear is bright and colourful (not pastels) but lots of happy casual clothes to choose from.

Polar Sport Watch

My parents enrolled me in NUHS weight management clinic that has dietitians, doctors, physiotherapists and even runs beginner exercise classes. It also sells these Polar Sport Watches, that are really more advanced than anything sold a decade ago. So now I am back to counting calories by keeping a food journal.

Mine is this pink FT4 for cross-training. It monitors heart rate (to check if you are in the fat burning zone), calories burned, exercise duration and log. All this in addition to being a watch that tells date and time.

Polar sells a range of sport watches to suit your lifestyle and fitness goals. Pedometers, GPS, altitude, cycling speed and distance, swimming and even coaching program.

There is a phone app you can download to sync with monitor/watch. A group coaching app you can download on Ipad to monitor your team's training progress. In-app purchases allow for more functions.
