Hairy Crab Beehoon Soup

A lunchtime secret : Don's Pie Shop just downstairs from my office, seasonally offers Hairy Crab Beehoon Soup plain or black pepper. Depending on the chef, sometimes there is cold crab on the menu. The chef trims away the hair before stewing the entire crab in beehoon soup with ginger, so the layman can't tell. The crabs used are chokeful of roe and twice the usual size you get in Chinese restaurants. Ginger is usually served with the hairy crab to balance the yin and the yang. For $20 you can get a one dish meal that captures the tastes of the season =) I feel full just from the full-bodied soup. Soo yummy, I don't mind another bowl soon.

Lollipop Tree

I made a lollipop centrepiece for my dad's birthday this Sunday. Thanks to that crazy sweet shop called "Candy Empire" I got all my stuff in one place. So if you've got $50 to spare, here's what you need to make your own Lollipop Centrepiece.

1) Colourful buckets

2) 1 Giant Lolly (mine is 500g. But, I have seen bigger ones before ~ 1kg!)

3) lollies in all shapes and sizes you can find (I have 5 kinds)

4) 1 foot long gummy worm

5) 1 thumb high gummy burger

6) Packets of miniature candies (I used Mars, M&Ms, Toblerone, Kit-Kat)

7) Ribbons

Arrange the biggest lolly in the center of the bucket. Fill it with all the miniature candy to hold it in place. Then tie the smaller lollies onto the big lolly, stuffing the extra into the miniature candy fill. Cover pole with ribbon, tying bows intermittently.

Jewelfest 2010

Happy days as the 14 day long Jewelfest is here again. This is my favourite festival in Singapore as all the jewellers take out the good stuff to display. This year's fest is pared down compared to previous years. I think it might be because of the huge SIJS event at Marina Bay Sands Resort in July. More Indian jewellers this time round too!

The spotlight is on LeeHwa's animal print jewellery line that is on fire! Prices start from $5,000.

Ok, so this year I didn't see any rings I liked. I saw alot of Indian jewellery I want but with 5 figure prices I don't think I should be buying any yet - yellow sapphire peacock earrings, diamonds & pearl feather earrings, mixed gem Indian bangle sets.

Then I saw this lovely rutilated heart necklace from March Jewels, you should see the brace of this pendant, lovely architectural lattice pattern. The fixed on chain is too short for me so I have to reconsider. Especially since I have something similar in pave-set diamond already. It's soo adorable.

50% - 70% discounts on solitaires. Yes, that's right people, this particular diamond costs $10,500 after discount and Lee Hwa will set it for free! Thinking of getting a solitaire pendant.

I didn't walk away empty handed. I bought this Chinese influenced pendant in mother-of-pearl and gold.

RW Confirmation Gift

Received a congratulatory call from my recruiter this morning. It's been 6 months since I've started in this bank and I have been confirmed! So nice of them to send along a RW card (for discounts at pubs) and a box of chocolates. 

It was gone in a flash, my colleagues and I loved it. That last one is a banana creme if you were wondering.

I was comparing the specs of the new IPhone 4 and my old Samsung Omnia II to realize it's the same! No point changing then. All the photos on my blog are taken with the 5 megapixel camera on my mobile. That reminds me, time for some new self-shot photos =)

The "OMG!" look above and then the "huh?" look below. I thought these shots had more character. In the end, I used a more normal shot - as voted by my family.

Tan Hock Seng Cake Shop

This traditional cake shop is located at China Square. Rainbow wafers...I remember this.

I am whipping up cream with vanilla beans and mango to make a dessert with it. 

Layering cream fruits in between the wafer discs.
