Korean Cold Noodles

There is this Korean restaurant near my office that everyone frequents. It is only so-so as I have tried more authentic, sincere joints along Boat Quay. However, there is a cold vegetable noodle dish that is fantastic. I mistook it for a starter at first but, the white rice noodles peeking out underneath gave it away. I think the sauce is made of chili oil, sesame oil and something else....hmm...eitherway, it's delectable =)
*4 Oct 10 update: ok, don't go. The cook has left.

Coffee Plug

The barister usually sticks a piece of tape over my coffe cup lid to prevent it from spilling. But, this coffee place has a plastic tab instead.

I won a Hoyu Hamper

Remember July's $100,000 Her World giveaway? I entered the Hoyu contest on the same magazine and won! My mom uses Bigen and the conditioner that comes with the hair colouring pack is superb!! Better than any salon treatment. So now that I have 4 boxes of Bigen Silky, I can't wait to try it out. Especially since it has a new brush applicator that allows you to literally comb on the dye, making it easier for you to apply the dye on your own. The hamper also comes with 3 full size leave on conditioners for post-colouring care and 1 tube of Beauteen light brown for highlighting *eepps* not sure if I am up to it.

Rainbow Cake

This is the Rainbow Cake that appeared in the Martha Stewart show as created by blogger Whisk Kid. It's soo pretty that I had to make one as well, with tweaks of course. Which I found out later had very different results from the above cake. I included pictures of how the cake should look like for perspective.

1st variation, the cake batter was separated using a ladle instead of weighing individual bowls.

2nd variation, I used food flavouring with colour instead of pure food colouring. Grape for purple, Blueberry for blue, Honeydew for green, Pineapple for yellow, Peach for orange and Cherry for red. Of course the blueberry turned out purple *oops* and the dark purple turned out a dull purple after baking.

3rd variation, I used cream cheese icing instead of lemon buttercream. It's a matter of personal preference.

4th variation, and perhaps the most disastrous change, I used 7" pans instead of 9" as instructed by the recipe. I was happily layering the cakes and spreading icing in between. Feeling really good about myself as I reached the final layer of red cake. When suddenly, the red cake started to split into 4 and dropping off the sides of the cake! Frantic freezing and pushing bits of cake into shape resulted in a dome shape instead of neat layers.

Alas, that is the fate of my rainbow cake. It is meant to be eaten right? So appearance shouldn't count.

Baby Ryan's Birthday Cake

Baby Ryan turns 1 today. So I made an ice-cream cake to celebrate...ice-cream cakes are the preferred choice in my family.

After mixing in all the ingredients for a regular french vanilla cake, the batter is poured into a 9" pan (spring release, a new purchase) and left to bake in the oven.

The baked cake is then cut into half and an entire tub of ice-cream squeezed into the center. The end result should resemble a giant cookie like the above picture.

I creamed an entire tub of low fat vanilla ice-cream to make the frosting. It appears that is what Baskin Robbins does for it's ice-cream cakes. It gives it that extra oomph.

Rainbow sprinkles, seashell chocolates and an umbrella to complete this holiday cake =0
