Gardens by the Bay

Touring Gardens by the Bay with my mom on a weekday morning. Hoping the crowds won't be there and true enough, its mostly cyclists with the tourists pouring in after lunch.

SuperTree Grove, where you can walk on treetops via OCBC skyway $5/person or dine @ the highest tree - Indochine Restaurant. There are more restaurants en route from the MRT to SuperTree Grove; Peach Garden, Hill Street Cafe and Texas Chicken. We had lunch @ Hill Street Cafe before heading home.

The outdoor gardens are free for the public that's where all the cyclists are. Some people I know park their cars @ Satay by the Bay that has its own parking lot (20mins walk from the entrance), then cycle around the dozen or so themed gardens. My mom and I took the audio tram $8/person that brought us through all the themed gardens and showed us the picnic spots, rentable spaces for events and this floating baby sculpture.

Cooled Conservatories - Flower Dome and Cloud Forest are located next to each other, $20/person. There is a gift shop, Bakerzin Cafe and charging bay @ ticketing area.

Flower Dome has tons of gorgeous cacti and flowers, photo ops with these giant postage stamps. The dome also houses Pollen restaurant that serves modern mediterranean cuisine.

Both conservatories share the same gift shop exit, Conservatory Cafe (pic below) for an ice-cream/coffee break and entrance to Majestic Bay Chinese Seafood Restaurant.

Cloud Forest houses a 7 storey high waterfall. I really think kids will like this better than flowers. There is an indoor skywalk spanning 4 storeys, leading to crystal exhibit and an audio visual centre where you can learn more about climate change and other geography type things.

As you walk through the Cloud Forest, you will notice little pockets of surprises like a Lego plant garden, giant alligators, landscaped ponds.

In between the cooled conservatories and Satay by the Bay is Far East Organization Children's Garden a water themed playground for kids with its own cafe.

Authentic Szechuan Delicacies

A new-ish stall @ Whampoa market. Hot & spicy dishes featuring chili oil are a Szechuan specialty and I like the unusual salads here done with pig's heart, gizzards and other intestines. There is also a hot noodle soup and cold chicken noodle if these side dishes aren't your taste.

Here are pics of the Heart salad and Gizzard salad that are excellent! Not exactly a main course, more like snacks with beer or afternoon tea.

Spotlight - Curtain Remnants - Jacket B

I have decided to make another Cynthia Rowley jacket from her Spring 2011 collection. It kinda looks like a cape, being oversized and all. The fabric of choice here is a basket-weave curtain remnant called Tristan Textured Linen.

The material is heavy enough by itself so just cut and sew, I reinforced all seams 3x just in case.

A natural coloured, resort-inspired piece for the wardrobe.

Personalized Coca-Cola Cans

7-11/Big Gulp contest to win 5 personalized coca-cola cans. You can get 1 personalized coke can @ roadshow with minimum $10 purchase of coke drinks. With just 1 big gulp, I won 5 vouchers. It sounds like a great deal until I had to collect the vouchers from 7-11 @ Tampines then find a roadshow to redeem these vouchers. There is a direct bus from my place to the roadshow but its from 1 interchange to the next, that's a 2 hour journey x2 (back and forth).

I entered another Coca-cola contest to win a personalized sweater, hoping to win that as well!

The staff entering my details into the machine. I waited 30mins as there was a Q in the machine.

Dolce Tokyo

Run by MOF (Ministry of Food) this place offers Jap-Western fusion food that is fresh and wholesome, my right kind of combination always. Located just outside BHG 3rd floor, I stopped in for a bite after shopping.

Most mains here are priced between $12-$20. I ordered a prime rib steak with sides at just under $30, yuzu juice $5 and their signature Ichigo Daifuku $7 (prices before service tax and gst). Everything was yummy!

That daifuku is really good, fresh strawberry wrapped in red bean paste and freshly prepared chocolate mochi skin is amazing! I really like freshly made mochi.

Spotlight - Curtain Remnants - Dress C

Jacket A and Dress C are from the same pattern 1688 Cynthia Rowley. I tried to match the fabrics so it will look like a set.

Dress C is made from 2 yards of base fabric, 1 yard of lining and 1 yard of contrasting fabric for the top. I made this dress in a cream shade of the same twill I used for jacket A, accent on top is in thermal silk, coz regular silk is too thin.

Total retail price of fabrics $220! At these prices, you would be relieved to know the yardage required is overstated. I made the lining and dress accent from the same 1 yard of fabric and only used 1 yard of base fabric for the dress.

The dress itself was simple enough to sew, requiring just 4 main & 4 lining fabric pieces. The difficulty was leaving spaces in between the sewn up fabric to slot in straps, a move requiring precision.

Moschino Autumn/Winter 2015/2016

Continuing to double-brand its clothes, this season its Looney Tunes.

Can't decide if this bear is famous or not, is it Rilakumma?

Patchwork denim with gold accents. That teddy bear hoodie is soo cute.

More bright prints and unreal puffy clothes.

Evening gowns have all been graffiti-ed.

Creative Director Jeremy Scott sent Katy Perry down the Met Gala red carpet in something similar this year.

Moschino Menswear this season is well geared for the cold with snow boots and larger than life brights.
